Prompt Therapy

Methodology that has proven to be effective.

PROMPT is an acronym for Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets. It is a language-based technique which uses tactile cues to help organize, plan, and execute speech production for the development or redevelopment of language within functional interactions.

PROMPT is a tactile-kinesthetic approach that involves touch, pressure, kinesthetic (tactile) and proprioceptive (body’s sense of itself) cues to the individual’s oral musculature (jaw, tongue, lips) to manually guide him/her through the targeted word, phrase or sentence.

PROMPT stresses motor control and precision of oral muscle movements, while at the same time limits unnecessary movements. More traditional speech therapy approaches rely on auditory and visual systems to provide information about sound production. PROMPT therapy delivers the information through sensory feedback (tactual system).

PROMPT therapy is appropriate for wide range of individuals with communication disorders.

The ultimate goal is effective communication.
